Sunset, originally titled In Deadly Ernest, was commissioned by Museo Hemingway in Cuba for presentation at the 13th International Hemingway Colloquium, June 2011, in Havana, Cuba. Attending the opening night performance in the Salon of the famous Hotel Ambos Mundos was Canadian Ambassador, Mathew Levin and his staff. Sunset is the final instalment of the chronological series of plays known as The Hemingway Monologues. Please note that a Special Edition called Hemingway’s Hot Havana follows as Part Seven. Part Seven is an exciting stand-alone adventure.

Act One:  Sunset continues from the end of World War II. Ernest eagerly awaits the arrival of Mary Welsh and a new marriage. They deal with life in Cuba, Idaho and Italy as Mary runs the household at Finca Vigia, meets movie stars in Sun Valley and copes with her husband’s infatuation in Venice. Ernest also shows his love for his middle son, Patrick before moving on to publish Across the River and Into the Trees and The Old Man and the Sea.

Act Two:  In Africa with Mary, Ernest is involved in two plane crashes that mark a gradual but certain deterioration in his health. After winning the Nobel Prize, he manages to continue writing in spite of the intrusions on his privacy. Eventually, a series of losses, including his beloved Finca Vigia, lead him to the Mayo Clinic and, finally, his demise.
